la troisième semaine

Another week has flown by and we are gradually becoming more confident speaking French. It snowed at the beginning of the week (during which I realised that none of the pairs of shoes I brought with me are appropriate for snow) but it quickly melted and it's just been chilly since then.
Happy boy

Our museum of the week was Patrick's choice - on Thursday we went to the Musée des Arts et Métiers, which is a museum of industrial design and invention. It is vast both in size and scope, with objects dating from the very earliest explorations of time and measurement (the first sundials, astrolabes, calculating machines, measuring weights), to the age of scientific and mathematical discovery; the growing complexities of engineering and building; to the beginnings and development of other, more modern processes - photography, printing, sound recording, television and robotics. It was great! The original Foucault's pendulum also hangs in the (presumably deconsecrated) chapel there, which also has models of early planes suspended from the ceiling and a scaled down model of the Statue of Liberty.

Du Pain et Des Idées
Another highlight of the week was visiting a boulangerie we had been intending to visit for the past three years! Slightly pretentiously titled Du Pain et Des Idées, it is famous for its "Pain des Amis", which we can now confirm is genuinely one of the most delicious breads we have ever had, although we actually can't put our finger on what makes it taste so delicious. Baked in great slabs, you can buy it in halves or quarters, and it is chewy and smoky and divine. There's definitely a secret ingredient, but we just don't know what it could be. We recommend to all!

Pain des Amis - we ate this with a LOT of butter.
On Friday evening we went for supper at one of our favourite places in Paris, Jaja. We first went there two years ago for one of our wedding present meals (thank you Mama!) and have been meaning to go back ever since. It was nice to have the opportunity to dress up!

We've no special plans for the weekend, other than going for long walks and doing our homework, of course. Thank you to everyone sending your news! Miss you all. xxx
